Hi, I'm Nikita and I attend the last year of a hotel catering school in Loreto, Italy, IIS Einstein Nebbia. I would like to tell you about one of the most awesome experiences of my life. Like every year, the students attending the fourth year in my school have the chance to apply for an Erasmus internship. I filled in the application form as well as the CVs in the two foreign languages I studied at school. According to me it was just an attempt. But it happened!! I won it! I was excited, enthusiastic and I could wait for telling my family and friends.
Times passed by and I felt more and more excited! I was also scared because I didn't know any of the guys leaving with me. I was afraid something might have gone wrong.
But it didn't! I met fantastic people. Since I was at the airport I felt as if we had met long time before. We started this 'long journey', I use the quotes because time just flew.
After a long day spent travelling by coach, plane finally we arrived. It was late at night but we were already in love with that city, with OUR Granada!
The following morning, after having slept only three hours, we went grocery shopping and of course we bought lots of junk food! Although we had 3 navigators on, we lost several times but we had great fun!
The following day we visited our internship resorts and restaurants. We were scared because everybody had to work alone in a new place and in a different language, far away from each other and with different timetables! But our adventure started from that moment onwards!
Some of us were far away, other close to our accommodation, we got lost again and again, everytime helping each other! We discovered and learnt a new life style, and new habits. Every evening we went to a bar, we had fun in trying new tapas trying to guess its ingredients
At the end of this month, I have a new family as well as a new 'house', my Granada or as I call it, my place in the world.
I lived many difficult moments in this month, I was nostalgic of my family and friends. But we overcame every diffucult situation together. We were really a family because when some of us had a sad moment we did our best to make him happy.
A special Thanks goes to our teachers who were there with us; they taught us to live in an autonoumous way, to do laundry and to live without any fear.
I did my experience and I hope you will do as well! The advice I want to give you is to seize the day and to act on instinct. Remember you will leave with an empty suitcase and you will come back with one full of emotions.
REMEMBER: DO NOT PUT OFF WHAT YOU CAN TO TODAY.
Good luck for your new experience. Have a nice journey!
