Imagine that someone one day, a teacher for example, told you about the possibility to leave to the Caribbean for one month with an Erasmus scholarship.....what would be your reaction?
Exactly….. butterflies in the stomach. That what I felt when I learnt I had won that scholarship after so much studying.
I couldn’t believe it! I could not realize it was happening to me!
I SPENT ONE MONTH UNDER THE CARIBBEAN SKY, sharing my accommodation with other guys I had never met before. However that experience suddenly transformed us from strangers into a family.
There I had to deal with people completely different from me and in English, because that was the only language people spoke there. I thought impossible to speak for one month just in English..... and if they didn’t understand me? It happened, many times I felt ashamed because I couldn’t remember a word and I went haywire but after some laughing, I found a way and you will do the same, you will see. I could not understand them but they could not understand me so that was a mutual trouble!
Anyway I assure you that I learnt more in that place than in any other experience in my life: I run bookings in English, I gave information, answered the phone, learnt new skills, I spoke to my colleagues and all in English! WOW....amazing!
And I spent 30 days in the opposite part of the world, far away from my family, my friends and my comfort zone and ...... I was deadly scared.... I had never been so far away from my mum before.
Believe me…. Don’t be afraid of facing new challenges, test yourself and do your best to win.
Apply for the Erasmus and LEAVE.
It is growing, learning, surprise, satisfaction, fun, it is CURRICULUM.
An Erasmus will make you guys better people, more aware of the world, of the job and of yourself, your skills, it will make you more mature and more self-confident.
